كُن فَيَكُونُ

kun fayakūn — “Be, and it is.”

Kūn is the imperative. Fayakun is what follows.

My name is Bintang Fayakun. The second half of it means “and it is” — the answer to the command. So the studio is called Kūn: the word that comes before the thing exists.

I photograph in Bali, mostly on the eastern side of the island where I grew up. Weddings, villas, brands, and short films. I work alone unless a job needs a second pair of hands, and I would rather spend a whole day getting six frames right than fill a card.

What I care about is the thing that actually happened. Not the version arranged for a camera. If you want photographs that look like a wedding, plenty of people can make those. If you want photographs that look like your wedding, we should talk.

Process

Four steps, and none of them are a surprise.

  1. 01

    Conversation

    We talk before anything is booked, usually for half an hour. I want to know who is there and what the day actually looks like.

  2. 02

    Concept

    I send a short plan: locations, hours, the frames I intend to make. You change what does not fit.

  3. 03

    Shoot

    I work quietly and I stay out of the way. If something needs to be arranged, I will ask once and then leave it alone.

  4. 04

    Delivery

    A preview set within two weeks, the full gallery within four. Files arrive in web and print sizes, ready to use.
